Immigration Work Permit Applications

A Work Permit is an official document issued by the Director of Immigration Services under Section 40 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011, allowing a foreign national to enter and live in Kenya for purposes such as employment, business, farming, missionary work, or residence.

The Director issues Work/Residence Permits based on recommendations from the Permit Determination Committee, appointed by the Cabinet Secretary under Section 40(1) of the Act. Any person dissatisfied with the Director’s decision may appeal to the Cabinet Secretary under Section 22(1) of the Kenya Citizens and Foreign Nationals Management Service Act, 2011.

Exemptions

This permit is issued any person or class or description of persons, exempted by the cabinet secretary from provisions of obtaining a work permit by notice in the gazette. (Section 34 (3)(g) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act, 2011).
